Wells Dementia Action Alliance

Wells Dementia Action Alliance

A large proportion of the adults in the Wells area are over the age of 65, as many people choose to retire to the picturesque West Country.

To achieve the goal of a Dementia Friendly City, an alliance was set up comprising of representatives from local businesses, civic organisations, health and social care providers, schools, faith groups and rescue services.  Heads Up is part of this alliance.

This Local Alliance helps deliver the objectives of the National Dementia Declaration at a local level and supports the objectives of the City of Wells, as a Dementia Friendly Community.

The Wells Dementia Action Alliance: Our Aims and Objectives
  • To raise awareness of dementia throughout the City of Wells and ensure that we are inclusive of people with dementia and their carers. This helps them to remain independent and have choice and control over their lives;
  • To listen to those living with dementia and their carers in the City of Wells and surrounding areas, whilst seeking to remove barriers and minimise difficulties;
  • To support and encourage businesses and organisations in Wells to learn about dementia and to turn that understanding into a commitment to positive change;
  • To create a dementia-friendly community, whereby both patients and carers are encouraged to seek help and support in the local area – and feel comfortable doing so.
